Policies & Information

Check-In & Check-Out Times



Our check-out time is10:00am, if you stay past 10:00 without an authorized late check-out provided by the front office, you will be charged for another night. 

Check-In time is 4:00pm, If you arrive before 4:00 and your room is not prepared, we cannot allow you to check in early. 


Standard Rooms: Payment for the first night’s room and tax is due at the time of booking with payment in full received prior to check-in on the day of arrival.

Cottages: Payment for 50% of your stay is due at the time of booking with the balance due 60 days prior to arrival. All payments must be made prior to arrival. In the event a reservation is made within 30 days of check-in; the full payment will be due at the time of the booking.

Cottage Cancellation

Once your reservation is confirmed by payment, you must notify us in writing if you are unable to occupy the unit. The guest is responsible for verifying that we have received the cancellation letter. Refunds are available, less a $100 service charge, only if the cottage is re-rented. If we are unable to re-rent the property, all payments will be forfeited. Refunds will be made to the guest within 30 days after the subsequent re-rent payment has cleared our accounts.

Guests shall not be entitled to any refund or rebate due to illness, acts of nature, unfavorable weather, disruption of utility services, or any other situation occurring not under our control. 

Trip insurance can be purchased through a variety of online sources.  The SandSpur Ocean Cottages will not give refunds or other compensation due to any of the above listed conditions.

Making A Reservation

Reservations are made by directly through the booking engine on this website or by calling (252) 441-6993. 


The SandSpur accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and checks for deposits for your unit.  


If you choose to secure your reservation by check, it must be received within 7 days after making of the reservation and 30 days prior to arrival.  Make checks payable to SandSpur Ocean Cottages. There will be a $25.00 service fee for all returned checks.  If we do not receive your payment within this timeframe, your reservation is subject to cancellation without notice. Upon receipt of your payment, a confirmation notice will be sent via postal or email to you.

Dog Policy

  1. Pet Fee: There is a non-refundable pet fee of $25 per day, per dog. This fee must be paid upon check-in and helps cover additional cleaning and maintenance associated with accommodating pets.

  2. Pet-Friendly Units Only: Dogs are only permitted in designated Dog-Friendly units. It's the responsibility of the guest to confirm this information with a hotel employee prior to booking.

  3. Pet Waste Responsibility: Owners are responsible for promptly cleaning up after their pets. Failure to do so may result in either the pet or guest being asked to leave without refund.

  4. Leash Requirement: Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times while on the property.

  5. Preventing Excessive Noise: Dogs should not be left alone to bark excessively. Owners are responsible for ensuring their pet's noise does not disturb other guests. The hotel reserves the right to take necessary steps, including removal of the dog or guests, to maintain the comfort of all guests.

  6. Damage Liability: Guests are financially responsible for any damage caused by their dogs, including damage to carpets or upholstery from pet waste.
